As a partial replacement for the vast number of M809/ M814 vehicles, the ATC Tatra T-816 was selected and ordered for the IDF. This is the basic vehicle of the family.
Fitted with a hydraulic crane at the rear of the vehicle, along with a smaller foldable lifting device behind the rear of the cab.
This version of the Tatra is fitted with an installation that can drill for ground water. It is in use with the Israeli Handasha Kravit, the engineer corps.
There seem to be two versions of the Tatra/ Ara’za combination. One is a standard truck with the side panels removed from the cargo floor, whereas the other has the system mounted directly to the chassis. The radar is Elta’s EL/M-2084 Ara'za, which is used as the Detection & Tracking Radar within the Iron Dome. Iron Dome is designed to counter short-range rockets and 155 mm artillery shells with a range of up to 70 kilometres.
The radar pallet is fully autonomous.
This version of the Tatra is fitted with a launching system for the SPYDER (Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby) anti-aircraft missile system. The system itself is not operational with the IDF, but has been exported.
Built on the same chassis as the standard Tatra truck, this version has an enlarged cab. As a result the cargo floor is smaller. The vehicle can often be seen toting a blue and white driving school crest.
